Hi everyone! My name is Vicky, and this is my fourth year on the Teen Advisory Board. I love to read and talk—a lot! I am a junior at Lexington High School, and I am a member of the marching band.  I play the flute and piccolo.  Hanging out with my friends and family, shopping, and watching TV are only a few of my favorite things to do with my free time.  I hope you like the newsletter!

I’m Down by Mishna Wolff

Based on the author’s life, I’m Down is the true story of a white girl who must figure out who she is in a place that she does not belong. She lives in a neighborhood that doesn’t accept her. All of the other kids tell her that she’s “too white” and that she needs to go somewhere else. When she finally moves out to live with her mom and attend a new “preppy, white-kid” school, she thinks her life will change. It does, but not in the ways she had hoped. She is not as smart as the other kids, and she seems to be an even bigger outcast.  Will Mishna ever find something that makes her feel accepted? Will she ever find who she really is, or will she be stuck as the girl who has never known who she really is?
