I live in a homeschool family and have an older brother and three younger sisters. I enjoy reading books, watching movies and listening to music.
Origin by Jessica Khoury
Pia lives in a complex in the jungle with a team of scientists. She is "perfect", an immortal who was created by genetic engineering and by mixing the Elysia flower and a catalyst. To make more people like her, she must pass the tests to become a scientist herself and learn what the catalyst is. During her seventeenth birthday party she comes across a hole in the electric fence just big enough to crawl through. She runs away into the jungle and finds a boy named Eio. He says she must leave the complex at once. She struggles to reach a decision. Should she trust this boy she loves but just met, or should she trust the cold, logical scientists who took care of her for her whole life?
Origin takes place in the exotic location of the Amazon rainforest. It feels as if it is happening as it is being read. The story tactfully combines science fiction with myth. It is emotionally horrifying with an ending that is bittersweet. The story sticks with you long after you have read it.
