What's Happening @ the Library - Spring

Teen Poetry Project

Who: Any student currently in grades 6-8 or 9-12
What: Any one poem that you have written, 25 lines or less on any theme and cover art sized 3.5” x 2”
Where: Submit entries to any M/RCPL location
When: Entries accepted through Thursday, March 21, 2013

Prizes:  3 winners will be chosen in each grade category (6-8 grades and 9-12 grades).  Winners will each receive $25.00 and their poems will be published in miniature books.  These books will be available at all M/RCPL locations by mid-April.

Judging will be done by the Library’s Teen Advisory Board Members.

Rules for Entering:
            You may submit no more than one entry.
            Entries must be legible.
            Maximum length is 25 lines.
            Attach your poem to a completed entry form and cover art.  (Art may be in color.)

            Original digital art may be submitted for the cover.
            Sorry, poetry and cover art cannot be returned.
            Only winners will be notified.

Test Your “App”titude
Entire Month of March
Grades 6-12 – With over 35 billion apps downloaded before the end of 2012, chances are good that you have encountered one or more of these apps recently.  Test your app knowledge with our app icon matching contest.  Turn in a completed entry form before the end of March.  If your entry is drawn as the winner, you’ll get a gift certificate to Cinemark. 

Check In @ Your Library – 7th Annual Teen Tech Week

Grades 6-12 – Celebrate the seventh annual Teen Tech Week anytime during the month of March by:
1.)  Picking up a Teen Tech Week bookmark,
2.)  Entering the Test Your “App”titude Contest, or
3.)  Making your own CD Clock.

Grades 6-12 - Create and decorate your own clock using old CDs and cases.  Bring your own CD to use or use one we’ll provide.  The time is right to sign-up for this program.

After Hours Rock-in’ Lock-in

Grades 6-12 – We’re closing the Library to everyone but teens for a fun after-hours party!  Come for games, surprises, and a serious Guitar Hero Tournament.

Grades 6 -12 – Here’s a great way to put all those old CDs to good use again.  Using an old CD case, some scrapbook paper, and a little imagination, you can turn those old cases into personalized photo frames for yourself or gifts for someone special.

Washi Eggs

Grades 6-12 – Decorating eggs has been a tradition since before the Middle Ages when eggs were colored and given as gifts.  This workshop will feature “washi,” the Japanese method of decorating eggs with special paper.

Cupcake Capers

Grades 6-12 - Join a local cake artist at the library as she demonstrates edible Spring art.  We’ll provide two delicious cupcakes, and you’ll collaborate with our expert to create awesome treats to beat those winter blues. This program will “take the cake.”

Create Your Own Ninja
Mon. Mar. 25 Bellville Branch          6 PM
Grades 6 -12 – You won’t need stealth for this program but creativity will help.  We’ll provide the colorful clay, accessories and instructions and, like Dr. Frankenstein, you will make your ninja warrior become 3-D.  You won’t be “kung fu fighting,” but you will have a great time.

Confetti Glass

Grades 6-12 – Come paint a kaleidoscope of color on glass.  Use your glass jar organizer for pens, jewelry, anything you like!  We will provide all materials.

Grades 6-12 - Stop by and make a cool button bookmark, a neat way to mark your reading page.  We'll provide all the materials.  You provide the creativity!

Popsicle Sticks Upcycled

Grades 6-12 - Who would have thought a plain old Popsicle stick could be transformed into a fun and pretty accessory? We will use a simple process to make fashionable, inexpensive cuffs that you can coordinate with all your favorite outfits! They are easy to make and might make a great gift for Mom!

Drivers, Start Your Engines!

Grades 6-12 – Have you ever dreamed of driving a race car?  Come and learn what it takes to make your dream a reality from a Mid-Ohio Sports car driver.

Entire Month of May
Grades 6-12 – With summer almost upon us, you are probably planning your summer vacation.  See if you can name the popular tourist destinations on the poster at the library.  Turn in a completed entry form before the end of May.  If your entry is drawn as the winner, you’ll get a gift certificate to Cinemark. 

Flip Flop Fun

Grades 6-12 - Join us to learn how to color-coordinate your flip flops with the rest of your wardrobe.  You bring the flip flops, and the library will provide all other supplies and instructions.  

Tue. May 21   Lexington Branch      6 PM
Grades 6-12 - Join us for an evening of good clean fun as library staff provide easy instruction on making your own beauty products.  Choose your favorite colors and scents, and then decorate your new line of bath products.  All supplies will be provided.
