What Happened to Cass McBride? by Gail Giles
By teen libApril 19, 2013
Buried alive. . . That’s the stuff of nightmares.
But Cass McBride is living her worst nightmare. The last thing she remembers is crawling into bed after taking a nice hot shower last night. Now, as she is waking up, her head is pounding, and she is stiff and hurts all over. As Cass stretches to work out the kinks and ease the pain, her toes bang against something hard and rough, like wood, instead of her super soft bed sheets. This causes her eyes to pop open in concern. But she sees nothing. She is blind!?! Cass wonders if she even has her eyes open.
But as Cass soon discovers, her eyes are open. It is just pitch black in the rough, wooden box, or shall we call it a coffin, that she finds herself in. Cass has been buried alive!
But there is an air tube that snakes through the earth into her box allowing her to breathe, and a walkie talkie attached to her hand which allows her to communicate with her captor. Cass figures out that if her captor wanted to kill her, she would already be dead. So with the air tube and the walkie talkie, Cass decides that he wants something from her. And since digging herself out of the grave or being rescued by someone else don’t appear to be great options for Cass’s survival; she is going to have to talk her way out of her grave. Can she do it? What Happened to Cass McBride by Gail Giles holds all the answers.
