Life As We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer
By teen libApril 19, 2013
Miranda is your normal teenage girl, attending high school, hanging out with her friends, and talking about her crush. But then everything changes overnight when the moon is knocked out of orbit by a huge asteroid. Since the moon is responsible for controlling much of the Earth’s environment, this change is devastating to the world. Tidal waves wipe out all coastal cities and towns, submerging most islands beneath tons of water. In addition to the flooding and innumerable casualties this causes, volcanoes are erupting in places people didn’t even know had volcanoes. With all that ash in the sky, sunlight cannot filter through which is causing massive crop failures. Miranda’s normal life fades away as all her time becomes consumed by the day-to-day struggle to survive. But what Miranda doesn’t realize is that the worst is yet to come.
