Conor Broekhart is living a charmed life. He is the only child of parents who love him very much. And his best friend is a princess. Conor’s father just happens to be the head of the king’s guard, so Conor can come and go as he pleases at the castle.
In fact after a particularly dangerous science experiment goes wrong in the king’s castle apartments, Conor saves the princess’s life. It was a miracle by all accounts. At the top of the castle where Conor and the princess had retreated to avoid the fire, Conor spotted the flag flying on the roof of the castle turret. He quickly fashioned it into a makeshift kite, and he and the princess glided off the castle roof and slowly down into the water surrounding the castle’s island.
This isn’t the first time that Conor had flown though. He was actually born in a hot air balloon. And he has a burning desire to return to the skies in flight. He and his tutor have plans to build the very best flying machine. But then the unthinkable happens. The king is murdered, and Conor is incarcerated for that murder under the most dangerous conditions. Conor Broekhart’s race for flight is now a race for survival.
