The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

The child that the man Jack is trying to find to kill is Nobody Owens, known to his friends as Bod.  He is a normal, ordinary child, or he would be if he didn’t live in a graveyard, being raised and educated by ghosts.  Happy enough with his friends in the graveyard, Bod also realizes it is a prison for him, because if he leaves the graveyard, then he will again be at risk of attack by the man Jack—the very same one who has already killed his entire family.
