The Diamond of Drury Lane by Julia Golding
By teen libApril 8, 2013
Every theater in London in the 1790s needs a cat, but the Theater Royal on Drury Lane has a different sort of cat, Cat Royal, a streetwise orphan that was taken in by the owner of the theater, Mr. Sheridan, back when she was abandoned as an infant and since raised by various members employed by the theater. Cat’s life up to this point has been as normal as any orphan’s might be living in a theater. But when she surreptitiously follows Mr. Sheridan out of his box in the middle of an awful performance, Cat stumbles into a secret meeting, hearing the mention of a diamond hidden within the theater. She promises to help safeguard the hidden treasure without even knowing its whereabouts. But when she slips and mentions it to her new friend, Pedro, an orchestra member, chaos ensues. Follow Cat as she struggles to avoid rival London gangs hunting for the diamond, so you can be the first to discover it.
