Erak's Ransom by John Flanagan

By teen lib

April 8, 2013

Erak’s Ransom actually backtracks and takes place in the timeline before Will becomes a full-fledged ranger prior to books five and six, The Sorcerer of the North and The Siege of Macindaw.  Will, Halt, and Evanlyn must use all their resources and cunning in this installment of the Ranger’s Apprentice to arrange the release of the captured and ransomed Erak, leader of the Skandians and ally to the Araluens.  What’s worse is that Erak has been captured by a dangerous tribe, and even with Halt’s extensive knowledge, they know very little of their enemies in this case.  Confused by sandstorms, oppressed by the unrelenting heat, and tricked by another desert tribe that plays by its own rules, the Araluens begin to realize that just as a desert mirage nothing is as it seems to be.
